Rupert & Rothschild Baroness Nadine 2023

Manufacturer: Rupert & Rothschild

Rupert & Rothschild Baroness Nadine is the flagship white wine of Rupert & Rothschild Vignerons, named in honour of Baroness Nadine de Rothschild. Crafted exclusively from Chardonnay, this elegant wine reflects the estate’s philosophy of producing refined, terroir-driven wines with exceptional balance and ageing potential. The grapes are sourced from carefully selected vineyard sites in the Western Cape and harvested during the cool morning hours to preserve freshness and aromatic purity. Fermentation takes place partly in French oak barrels, where the wine also matures on its fine lees, developing additional texture, complexity, and depth while maintaining precision and elegance. The bouquet is expressive and sophisticated, revealing aromas of citrus blossom, lemon zest, white peach, nectarine, and subtle floral nuances. Delicate notes of toasted almond, brioche, and vanilla from barrel maturation add further complexity. On the palate, the wine is focused and beautifully textured, with vibrant acidity supporting flavours of ripe stone fruit, citrus, and subtle mineral notes. The finish is long, refined, and exceptionally well-balanced.Rupert & Rothschild Baroness Nadine is a distinguished Chardonnay that combines freshness, elegance, and complexity, making it equally rewarding in its youth and after several years of bottle ageing.

About the Winery

Rupert & Rothschild Vignerons was established in 1997 through a partnership between two distinguished wine families – South Africa’s Rupert family and France’s Rothschild family. The venture was founded by Dr Anton Rupert and Baron Edmond de Rothschild with the vision of creating world-class wines that would combine the elegance of the Old World with the dynamism and potential of the New World. The winery is based on the historic Fredericksburg estate, a French Huguenot farm established in 1690 at the foot of the Simonsberg mountain between Franschhoek and Paarl. Since its inception, the estate has focused on producing a limited portfolio of wines, particularly Bordeaux-style blends and Chardonnay, with an emphasis on precision, balance and longevity. The winery’s philosophy is built on the union of two winemaking traditions, respect for terroir and an unwavering pursuit of excellence. Through this unique collaboration, Rupert & Rothschild Vignerons has become one of South Africa’s most respected premium wine producers and a symbol of elegance, craftsmanship and international winemaking partnership.

Terroir

The terroir of Rupert & Rothschild Vignerons is shaped by the exceptional location of the historic Fredericksburg estate at the foot of the Simonsberg mountain, between the regions of Franschhoek, Paarl and Stellenbosch. The vineyards benefit from a combination of varying aspects, elevations and soil types that provide ideal conditions for classic Bordeaux varieties and Chardonnay. The soils are predominantly well-drained gravelly and granite-based formations with clay components, allowing deep root development and balanced vine growth. The Mediterranean climate of the Western Cape also plays a crucial role, characterised by warm sunny days and cooling maritime influences from the nearby coast. These conditions extend the ripening season, encouraging aromatic complexity while preserving freshness and natural acidity. The combination of Simonsberg’s mountain environment, diverse soils and favourable climate gives Rupert & Rothschild wines their distinctive elegance, structure and harmony, faithfully reflecting the character of this remarkable terroir.
