Rupert & Rothschild Vignerons, iconic Bordeaux-Style Wines from Franschhoek

Rupert & Rothschild Vignerons represents a unique partnership between two distinguished wine families – South Africa’s Rupert family and France’s Rothschild family. The estate is based on the historic Fredericksburg farm, established in 1690 at the foot of the Simonsberg Mountain between Franschhoek and Paarl. Benefiting from exceptional terroir, cooling maritime influences and a philosophy inspired by the great wines of Bordeaux, the winery focuses on producing elegant, age-worthy wines of international stature. Its portfolio is deliberately limited to three wines – Baroness Nadine Chardonnay, Classique and the flagship Baron Edmond – allowing an uncompromising focus on quality and craftsmanship. The estate was founded in 1997 when Dr Anton Rupert, one of South Africa’s most influential wine visionaries, joined forces with Baron Edmond de Rothschild, a member of the renowned French wine dynasty. Their shared ambition was to create wines that combined the elegance of the Old World with the unique potential of South African terroir. For this purpose, they selected the historic Huguenot farm Fredericksburg, whose history stretches back more than three centuries. Leadership later passed to their sons, Anthonij Rupert and Baron Benjamin de Rothschild, and today the partnership continues under the stewardship of the next generation of both families. Over the years, Rupert & Rothschild Vignerons has established itself as one of South Africa’s leading producers of Bordeaux-style wines and a benchmark estate of the Franschhoek–Simonsberg region.
