Hasher Family Wines Marimist Chardonnay 2023

Manufacturer: Hasher Family Wines

A layered and complex wine with excellent structure and texture. The 2023 Marimist Chardonnay offers an enticing bouquet of white pear, apricot, and citrus blossom, complemented by notes of toasted coconut flakes. The palate presents a soft, inviting entry with impressive weight, delivering a generous and well-rounded mouthfeel. Bright acidity carries through the wine, culminating in a refreshing, zesty lemon finish. Its sophisticated complexity, developed during 9 months of aging in French oak barrels, invites contemplation and another sip. This wine is well-suited for further maturation in the bottle. It has an estimated aging potential of 5 to 8 years, during which its complexity and character will continue to evolve.

About the Winery

Hasher Family Wines was established in the Upper Hemel-en-Aarde Valley in South Africa by a family driven by a deep respect for nature and a long-term vision for the land. Set in a cool maritime climate, the vineyards benefit from ocean influences, diverse soils and a balanced ecosystem, allowing the fruit to develop slowly and express clarity, freshness and elegance.

The winery follows a philosophy of gentle farming and careful craftsmanship. By focusing on site-specific varieties and limiting intervention in both vineyard and cellar, Hasher creates wines that reflect their origin with precision and authenticity. Sustainability, biodiversity and a thoughtful approach to viticulture are at the core of their identity and future direction.

Terroir

The Upper Hemel-en-Aarde Valley, home to Hasher Family Wines, lies close to the southern coast of South Africa and is shaped by its strong maritime influence. Cool ocean breezes flow inland from the Atlantic, moderating temperatures and extending the growing season. This slower ripening allows grapes to retain natural acidity while developing layered aromas and refined structure.

The landscape is defined by rolling hills, varied elevations and ancient decomposed granite soils that provide excellent drainage and subtle mineral expression. Differences in slope, exposure and altitude create a mosaic of mesoclimates, enabling each vineyard parcel to express its own character. This diversity, combined with a balanced ecosystem, forms the foundation for wines that are precise, elegant and deeply connected to their origin.
