Hasher Family Wines Batrachella Pinotage 2023 1.5L

Manufacturer: Hasher Family Wines

2023 Batrachella Pinotage is a focused and linear expression of its cool-climate terroir, showcasing exceptional fruit purity and beautifully balanced vibrancy. The wine presents a deep ruby colour with a complex nose of abundant blueberry, blackberry, and wild strawberry, complemented by intriguing umami elements of cacao nibs and black tea. On the palate, a fresh entry is supported by lively acidity and elegant tannins that provide an excellent framework. Local fynbos floral notes and a lengthy finish with hints of sweet, fruity Sichuan pepper reveal the wine's sophisticated depth. Matured for 11 months in French oak barrels (10% new), this Pinotage offers great aging potential of 8 to 12 years, inviting a harmonious evolution of its unique character.

About the Winery

Hasher Family Wines was established in the Upper Hemel-en-Aarde Valley in South Africa by a family driven by a deep respect for nature and a long-term vision for the land. Set in a cool maritime climate, the vineyards benefit from ocean influences, diverse soils and a balanced ecosystem, allowing the fruit to develop slowly and express clarity, freshness and elegance.

The winery follows a philosophy of gentle farming and careful craftsmanship. By focusing on site-specific varieties and limiting intervention in both vineyard and cellar, Hasher creates wines that reflect their origin with precision and authenticity. Sustainability, biodiversity and a thoughtful approach to viticulture are at the core of their identity and future direction.

Terroir

The Upper Hemel-en-Aarde Valley, home to Hasher Family Wines, lies close to the southern coast of South Africa and is shaped by its strong maritime influence. Cool ocean breezes flow inland from the Atlantic, moderating temperatures and extending the growing season. This slower ripening allows grapes to retain natural acidity while developing layered aromas and refined structure.

The landscape is defined by rolling hills, varied elevations and ancient decomposed granite soils that provide excellent drainage and subtle mineral expression. Differences in slope, exposure and altitude create a mosaic of mesoclimates, enabling each vineyard parcel to express its own character. This diversity, combined with a balanced ecosystem, forms the foundation for wines that are precise, elegant and deeply connected to their origin.
