Beyerskloof Diesel Pinotage is a remarkable wine and a local hero, created as a tribute to Beyers Truter’s beloved Great Dane, Diesel. This 100% Pinotage is sourced from 25-year-old bush vines, resulting in a wine of immense depth and authentic varietal expression. The nose is greeted with pleasant plum and blackberry aromas, elegantly supported by cedar oak in the background. On the palate, it is a big, structured wine with intense dark fruit flavours and sophisticated hints of chocolate from its 22-month maturation in new French oak barrels. With great complexity, balance, and a lasting finish, this iconic Pinotage will age superbly for 10 years or longer.

About the Winery
Beyerskloof is synonymous with Pinotage. The winery was established in 1988 by the legendaryBeyers Truter, known as the "King of Pinotage," with the vision of transforming South Africa’s signature grape into a world-class varietal. Today, the family business is led by his son, Anri Truter, who continues his father’s legacy of innovation and excellence. Beyerskloof has become the top-selling Pinotage brand globally, with their entry-level range serving as the benchmark for the entire category.
The winemaking team focuses on maximizing the potential of this cross between Pinot Noir and Hermitage (Cinsault). The portfolio ranges from fresh, fruit-driven styles to complex, barrel-aged masterpieces like the iconic Diesel Pinotage (named after Beyers’ loyal dog). Beyerskloof is more than just a winery; it is a cultural institution that has redefined the global perception of South African wine through sheer passion and dedication.
Terroir
The terroir of Beyerskloof, located in the heart of Stellenbosch, is perfectly suited to the specific needs of Pinotage. The vineyards benefit from a Mediterranean climate where warm summer days are tempered by cooling breezes from False Bay. This diurnal temperature shift is essential for maintaining acidity and developing complex aromatic compounds in the grapes. The soils consist primarily of deep, decomposed granite and shale (Oakleaf and Tukulu types), which possess excellent water-retention properties. This allows the vines to thrive during dry spells without the need for excessive irrigation. The result is fruit with a high concentration of color and flavor, lending Beyerskloof wines their signature structure, supple tannins, and distinct dark berry character with a subtle touch of spice.
